Cherry 16 Restoration

Hi Jaxsen,

Here are some photos of my Cherry 16 ( Ningadoo ) which I managed to get back in the water exactly one year after she was taken out to be restored. Some of the the photos where taken down at the Wooden Boat Center at Docklands, where I worked on her for just under 12 months to get her ready for the Easter event at Yarrawonga. Still a few little things to be completed however but the bulk of the work it has been done now as you can see in the photo's. Please feel free to contact me at 8goannas@gmail.com if you have any questions. I had a computer crash so some of the earlier photos have gone to god i think ..... if I can get them back I will post some of them to you.

Cheers for now,

Will

Modifications & Ideas

Increased cabin sitting headroom:

Improved upwind performance with jib track on top of cabin. Note the second fairlead leading rope to inward facing cleat for sensible control ergonomics. The mast here looks to be stepped too far forward. Lee helm may result.

Interesting bow rail:

Impressively fabricated rail. Note boarding step on transom. Also a traveller mid cockpit to facilitate improved control of mainsail shape.

Extended cabin
Trim tabs to help get boat on plane

Clever mast step steering wheel attachment quickly converts sail boat/canoe to a motor boat.

Has been highly modified and is an excellent harbour racer for 2 to 3 adults, it has the following..

-60kg bulb centre board.

-Extended mast (27 ft high).

- 2 jibs one is half kevlar half dacron the other is dacron.

-Self tacking jib.

-2 kites, bow sprit and spiniker pole.

Nicely added backrest/freeboard. Clever hinged cabin doors.Cheap sun shelter fitted to Cherry cockpit.
Lots of Modifications: Motor well, Hinged cabin hatch, Kick-up rudder, Backrest/added freeboard, etc

Storing/transporting your mast off centre as shown is a very good idea as it allows you to easily access both cockpit and cabin in preparation and packing up without obstruction. The mast can still be stepped from the off centre rear support.

Interior Design Ideas?

Building a Cherry 16

Let me know of your experiences in building a Pelin Cherry 16.

Trailer repairs

For peace of mind i've just replaced the springs and axle (new & galvanised for under $200). I managed to do it with the boat on trailer without injury. It would have been much easier if I had dry launched it onto some old tyres, a mattress, or soft lawn first.
